Welcome message
from the FIDIC president
This year’s conference once more takes place against a background of challenging global events and a continuing
uncertain economic backdrop. Our industry is used to this and to dealing with change and uncertainty and the key
challenge of dealing with risk, managing it and delivering under pressure. The conference will be discussing the
economic and business climate in which our sector operates, as well as the issue of the climate crisis itself, which is
an ever present and growing challenge for all of us.
This Official FIDIC International Contract Users’ Conference will highlight and review the use and role of FIDIC
contracts in the global marketplace and will also explore some of the latest developments in the contracts field. The
conference also offers attendees the opportunity to meet and network with key international stakeholders from
across the FIDIC contracts ecosystem, so I hope that you take advantage of that over the next couple of days.
As ever, our conference will offer some essential updates on the latest new FIDIC contracts that are being planned
or under development and you will hear first-hand from leading global contractual and legal experts on their
experience of using FIDIC forms, as well as some key insights on current and emerging issues in the ever-evolving
world of global construction contracts.
Despite a world of challenges, I know that our industry is more than capable of meeting them and delivering on
behalf of our clients. Conferences like this one are crucial in ensuring that we stay abreast of the latest
developments, trends and changes in our global industry that impact on the legal, governmental and contractual
frameworks in which we all work.
As well as discussing the key issues, this event will also celebrate success in our industry’s use of FIDIC contracts as
we showcase that success and examples of good practice through collaboration from across the world at our FIDIC
Contract Users’ Awards which takes place on the Tuesday evening of this conference.
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to be with us in London this week. I know that the
discussions we have and the feedback we receive over the next two days will help us to ensure that FIDIC contracts
remain relevant and maintain their position as the documents of choice for the global construction sector.

Official FIDIC International Contract Users’ Conference and Awards
event.
It’s great to be back here in London again this year after last year’s
successful event. FIDIC’s contracts occupy a key position in our
global industry and are widely used on many major construction
and infrastructure projects around the world.
Many international multilateral development banks continue to use
FIDIC contracts as an accepted form of contract for use with their
standard bidding documents.
This creates much needed certainty in the market, as the contracts
promote a fair and balanced approach between the parties that use
them on major construction contracts worldwide.

Delivering successful construction contracts in an ever-changing world
As part of the overall two-day event programme, the unveiling of the winners of the FIDIC Contract
Users’ Awards 2024 will also take place at a special gala dinner event on 3 December 2024. The
awards recognise excellence in the use of FIDIC contract forms for project delivery and showcase
examples of good practice through collaboration from across the world. The awards gala dinner is a
brilliant networking opportunity for attendees at the conference and the wider industry and should
not be missed.
Prior to the conference day, on 2 December 2024, FIDIC will be hosting its Dispute Avoidance and
Adjudication Forum to discuss key and emerging issues in dispute avoidance arena.
If you currently use FIDIC contracts, are contemplating using them in the future or just want to find
out more about why these market-leading contractual forms are so widely used and well regarded
across the international construction industry, then our conference this year promises to be a must-
attend event for all those working with FIDIC contracts.
The conference will offer delegates an invaluable update on FIDIC’s contract suite as well as

Users’ Awards Ceremony
Description: The awards, now in their sixth year, recognise excellence in the use of
FIDIC contract forms for project delivery, the promotion of FIDIC contracts, their use
in the global construction sector and showcase examples of good practice through
collaboration from across the world.
The judging panel for the awards, chaired by former UK High Court judge Sir Vivian
Ramsey, chose nine successful entries across a range of categories including Project
of the Year, Client of the Year, Contractor of the Year, Trainer of the Year and Legal
Firm of the Year. The nine successful entries will be presented with winner or highly
commended prizes at the awards dinner at the Park Plaza London Riverbank Hotel
on Tuesday 3 December 2024.
