Many of the categories in this year’s awards received more entries than last year, which is very heartening and further underlines the growing importance of the awards in the industry’s calendar. As well as raising the profile of FIDIC contracts and those who use and promote them, these awards - and indeed this entire event - brings together the global contract user community to celebrate excellence and good practice and we are delighted to be with you this evening to do just that.At FIDIC, we are firm believers in celebrating the achievements of our industry and the positive impact that it has on the lives of people around the world. St Brieuc Offshore Windfarm Client: Scottish Power RenewablesEngineer: VariousCountry: FranceAs the St Brieuc Offshore Windfarm construction phase approaches completion it becomes more relevant to acknowledge the importance of the successful execution of a relevant number of contracts that Ailes Marines (a subsidiary of Iberdrola) put in place with industry leaders for the design, manufacturing, construction, installation, commissioning and handover to O&M of the different assets (divided in working packages and contracted with 1999 Yellow Book-based conditions) which will result in one of the first offshore windfarms entering into operation in France.
Manila Water Company IncCountry: PhilippinesThe Manila Water Company, Inc. (MWCI) consistently demonstrates its dedication to implementing a framework that fairly balances the rights and obligations of all parties involved in a construction project, including the employer or client, the contractor and the engineer or consultant. MWCI has been applying FIDIC Yellow, Red, and White suites to its 12 different large and complex infrastructure projects. Nine projects used FIDIC Yellow and three used FIDIC Red. Eight of the 12 projects used FIDIC White. MWCI has applied FIDIC contracts a total of 20 times in its large and complex infrastructure projects. This year, MWCI has also completed a water supply project that used FIDIC Yellow.FIDIC contracts were used to cover various aspects of MWCI’s projects, including design,construction, consultancy services.

Cyril ChernFirm: Cyril ChernCountry: United KingdomCyril Chern has been actively involved with FIDIC for 25 years as a trainer, specifically regarding dispute resolution using dispute boards. A member of the FIDIC President’s Assessment Panel for many years assessing candidates, he has written eight books dealing with FIDIC contracts and adjudication. One in particular, Chern on Dispute Boards, is considered the ‘bible’ for dispute boards and next year sees its fifth edition published. It is used worldwide as a benchmark for dispute adjudication of FIDIC contract disputes. He teaches the subject for FIDIC, internationally and also at Cambridge and has been actively involved with FIDIC and its adjudicator processes, contributing to the continuous improvement of the industry.
Roberto Hernandez-GarciaFirm: COMAD, S.C. Director PartnerCountry: MexicoRoberto Hernandez-Garcia is an active dispute board member, currently working in five dispute boards - in El Salvador, three in Peru and the other in Argentina. All these have enabled him to understand the very different processes according to the project, parties and contract conditions so he can provide a better service to the parties. He is a promoter and believer in dispute avoidance and creates an important environment of trust among the contracting parties to promote avoidance and reduce disputes. David Heslett and Marcus TheilFirm: ECV Consultancy LtdCountry: United KingdomECV has been since 2000 a leading provider of FIDIC contract training worldwideThrough its owner David Heslett, it created the modular format of training in the 1999 FIDIC contracts and worked in partnership with FIDIC until the advent of Covid, presenting its courses to over 30,000 professionals in 90 countries. ECV has a rich history of training courses and with the advent of Covid in 2020 it converted all its 1999 and 2017 FIDIC contract courses to virtual delivery.
