Introduction
As the global representative body for national associations of consulting engineers, FIDIC represents over one million engineering professionals and 40,000 firms in more than 100 countries worldwide. The infrastructure sector in which FIDIC members work contributes around $36 trillion to global GDP, therefore FIDIC has significant reach into a highly influential global industry sector. FIDIC is renowned for its international standard forms of contract for use on national and international construction projects. FIDIC publishes standard forms of contracts for works and agreements for clients, consultants, sub-consultants, joint ventures and representatives. FIDIC also publishes various business practice documents such as policy papers, guidelines and training manuals. These documents cover a range of issues including risk management, project sustainability management, environment, integrity management, dispute resolution techniques and insurance and a number of guides for quality-based selection, procurement and tendering procedures. Infrastructure remains high on the agenda and once again, this year, the infrastructure sector is in the spotlight as world governments look on investments in their national social and physical infrastructure as being crucial to delivering on their economic plans over the years ahead. The FIDIC Global Infrastructure Conference, taking place in Geneva at the President Wilson Hotel from 8- 10 September 2024, will bring together representatives of the global engineering, construction and infrastructure sector to discuss the key issues and opportunities facing the industry. Since FIDIC last met in Singapore last year, global markets have seen a shift towards cooling interest rate rises, slowing inflation and an increasing focus on bolstering growth, something the infrastructure sector is well placed to help deliver. Delivering on truly global ambitions FIDIC’s Global Infrastructure Conference brings together those across the sector that will deliver over $139 trillion dollars of investment up to 2050. With industry leaders and decision-makers from consulting engineering firms, contractors, governments, civic society, international organisations and financial institutions all gathering in Geneva for this event, there’s no wonder that FIDIC’s annual flagship conference is seen as the world’s stand-out place to enact real change.
